Lately, I've been feeling down and unmotivated. The recent death of my dad has made things even more difficult than they already are, and it's been hard to find the energy to do anything. It seemed like every day was a struggle, and I was caught in a cycle where negative thoughts turned into negative feelings, and the actions that usually emerge of feelings in this case resulted in no action at all.
Since I have been in this situation before, led by my thoughts and emotions, I already know that the road towards depression is just around the corner. Depression is a complex and debilitating condition that can affect anyone at any stage of their lives. It is often characterized by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of motivation to engage in activities that used to bring joy, And I knew something needed to be done quick to prevent this.
I've realized that taking action is a powerful way to prevent myself from falling deeper into this feeling of hopelessness. When I take action, I'm able to break out of the negative cycle of thoughts and feelings that have been holding me back. Taking action means that I'm no longer just a passive bystander to my own life. Instead, I'm taking control and making positive changes that can improve my overall well-being and give me a sense of meaning.
For me, writing has always been a source of comfort and creativity. A way to express myself and make sense of the world around me. So I decided to use my passion to create something positive and meaningful, but not only to help myself, but also something that could motivate and help others out of a difficult situation.
I wrote a children's book (my first! yay!!) inspired by my own precious child's experience with anxiety, turning her experience into an inspiring tale about overcoming fear and stress.
The book tells the story of a child going through similar experiences as my own kid, and it highlights the things that the main character does to overcome her social anxiety. It shows children different coping mechanisms and strategies that they can use to feel more comfortable and confident in challenging situations.
Unintentionally I realized the story tells the exact thing I was trying to do myself! And I'm proud that I was able to get more active and create something positive out of a difficult situation. It's a reminder to myself that taking action, no matter how small, can be a powerful tool for overcoming difficult challenges and feeling more motivated and hopeful in life, Just like the lesson the kid in the story learned.
I want to shout out to everyone that might read now and need to hear this : Your first step can be the key to unlocking a sense of purpose and direction in your life. Don't be afraid to try something new, and see where it takes you. You never know what you can create until you try. We have the power in ourselves to create positive changes and make a difference in the world around us.
And for those who really struggle at times - It's also important to remember that seeking support from others can be a powerful tool in preventing and managing depression. Don't hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or a professional if you need help. You are not alone, and there is no shame in asking for help when you need it.
Remember to be gentle with yourself and take things one step at a time. Overcoming difficult challenges takes time and effort, but every small step you take towards a positive direction is a victory. Celebrate those victories and keep moving forward. You got this!
